FAQs

Our builders and groundwork contractors advise that it is always best to gain as much insight as possible before calling us, so you feel prepared to tell us exactly what you have in mind for your home building project. If you are thinking about investing in refreshing your property with new groundworks or property renovations, loft conversions or property extensions, please see the questions and answers below:

Is My Property Eligible for a Loft Conversion?

To convert any loft space, a minimum head height of 2.3 meters is required from the highest point of the floor joist to the bottom of the apex ridgeboard. Overall, 99% of UK lofts have this feature. You can request that we visit and measure this, should you require it. Simply contact our friendly and experienced builders.

Do I Pay Stamp Duty on a New Build?

Yes, you will still need to pay stamp duty on a new build. The amount you pay will depend on whether the property is for residential use. If you are using it as your main home, you will need to pay the typical rates.

Our new home builders are happy to advise on all aspects of our new build services. We can also discuss the complete suite of design and building works we undertake, including:

  • Building Design

  • Brickwork and Blockwork

  • Structural Work

  • Rendering and Plastering

  • Painting and Decorating

  • Windows and Doors

  • Drywall and Insulation

  • Floors, Walls and Ceilings

  • Electrical and Plumbing

  • Joinery and Carpentry

  • Fixtures and Fittings

How Much Will a Conversion Cost in the UK?

This will again depend on the uniqueness of your loft and the type of conversion you choose. The same can be said for any other type of renovation project. On average, a conversion can cost anywhere between £15,000-£17,000, but we recommend you talk to us to get a direct quote based on your own unique requirements.

Does a House Extension Add Much Value to My Property?

It absolutely does. In fact, there is no better way to increase the value of your property ahead of putting it on the market than investing in a property extension, renovation or conversion. In short, adding more space is always a good idea.

Will I Need Planning Permission for a Loft Conversion?

Most properties do not require planning permission. The only scenarios in which you may need this would be if you live on a protected development site, a conservation area, or if your building is a listed one.

What Are the Advantages of Having a Property Extension?

In addition to increasing the value of your property, it allows you more room and storage space, and the ability to explore fun uses for this new space, such as a home office or home cinema room.

Which Types of Foundations Are Most Used for Groundworks?

The most popular types for this service are typically ground-bearing slabs, pile foundations, raft foundations or strip footings. However, materials will be selected for the job based on the site's unique conditions and what would best suit it.
